There are many ways to express feelings of intimacy without having sex. But if you are going to have sexual intercourse, contraception is the safest way to prevent pregnancy and diseases. Both partners are responsible for contraception. But remember, no method of contraception is 100% effective except abstinence.
If you choose to use contraception, it Is wise to discuss the various methods with a health care counselor. Good contraceptive care includes both an initial health check-up and continuing care. Once sexually active, it is important to go for regular examinations.
It is also important to use a contraceptive properly. Do not borrow one that has been prescribed for a friend. When calling for an appointment, you should inquire whether there is an adolescent service available. Many facilities offer free services or special fee schedules geared to adolescent needs.
