Spotlight on Heroin Use in CT

Posted on February 7, 2014 by Support Posted in Uncategorized

The recent heroin overdose death of actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman has brought national media attention to the issue of drug addiction, and specifically, heroin addiction. The long list of celebrities lost to heroin overdose is proof that even intelligent, creative, successful people succumb to drug abuse and addiction. It’s proof that this public health problem can touch any individual, any family.

The heroin addiction that destroys lives here in New Milford does not get as much media attention as Hoffman’s death, but is just as devastating. The CT Public Radio show, “Where We Live” had a program on Thursday 2/6 exploring this problem, “Heroin and the Science of Addiction.” If you have kids, or just care about this issue, please take the time to listen. Let’s learn about addiction. Let’s hold this problem up to the light. It’s the only way to make a difference in the community, to prevent drug abuse and addiction, and help those already suffering from addiction. For more information about prevention efforts in New Milford, contact the New Milford Youth Agency.
