 The Youth Chef Advocacy Program is a sustainable, culinary program that goes far beyond just learning basic kitchen and culinary skills or standard nutrition facts. It is a program that teaches one about fresh, seasonal, locally grown whole food from farm to family table and why it is so vitally important to our well-being and the well-being of our world. It exposes kids to the intangibles of the life of the agricultural community in Connecticut and underscores the importance of sharing a meal with family and community.  It also provides you with a platform for which to speak about an aspect of food or farming that is important to you. 

The New Milford Youth Agency has teamed with the New Milford Hospital to create The Youth Chef Advocacy Program.The program is now open to take applications.   Print out the application below and mail it before Feb 4 to:

“I Am Dirt” – A presentation for high schoolers at New Milford High School by actor John Marello.  The show touches on many issues related to substance abuse and its effect on the community and individuals in a way that is engaging to teenagers.

Job Skills Workshop – A workshop that prepares high school students for getting their first job.  It covers interviews as well as applications.  There is also a Q&A panel with local business owners.

Children’s Day at New Milford Hospital – A free educational day at the Hospital with booths highlighting things like safety and nutrition.

Fake Id Program – A morning event presented to all liquor license holders in the Town of New Milford. This program is designed to raise awareness of the use of fake Ids as well as to instruct on what to look for.

Parent University – An educational workshop for New Milford parents with different classes on teen issues.

SADD Yard-sign Campaign – The members of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) will be doing a yard sign campaign in the spring to neighborhoods with signs that are very specific and will have a message saying something similar to Underage Drinking Parties Not Hosted Here. The signs will be created and distributed by the student members of SADD.
