The issue with 13 Reasons Why is NOT that it talks about suicide – We SHOULD be talking with youth about suicide. The issue is that while viewers know the show is fiction, it is important for parents and youth to weed out what exactly it is that makes the show UNREALISTIC and to base conversations around that. In addition, parents and youth should educate themselves with the wealth of evidenced based research and factual information that is out there. The following article provides parents with a guideline for parents to start this conversation with their children.
